Kwey, hello!

I’m Mallory Whiteduck.

I’m an assistant professor, reader, and interdisciplinary scholar from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg (KZ), currently living in Hudson Valley, NY. I teach Indigenous Political Thought at Vassar College and I’m writing a book called Rez Theory.

I post the Native literature I’m currently reading on instagram at @nativegirlsreading.

Rez Theory

Rez theory is about the ways Native folks turn the reservation into “the rez,” transforming a settler colonial construction into a place of their own making where they write the rules. The rez is creative, playful and political. It is created in everyday life by ordinary Native folks.

I would love to talk more about it. Email me at mwhiteduck@vassar.edu.

Research

I have a forthcoming article, titled “Rez Gothic,” in the journal Native American and Indigenous Studies. This is where you can find my most recent research on rez theory.

‘But it’s our story. Read it.’: Stories My Grandfather Told Me and Writing for Continuance is about the process, methods and reflections on an oral history project I worked on with my grandfather, published in Decolonization: Indigeneity, Education, & Society.
